On April 1 and 2, members of the New Hampshire Timber Harvesting Council and the New Hampshire Timberland Owners Association traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet personally with members of the New Hampshire Congressional Delegation and the U.S. Forest Service. During these meetings we were able to highlight the importance to the state of New Hampshire’s working forest and explain the issues and challenges we currently face. Topics discussed with the delegation included trade/tariff policy, federal funding for the state’s experimental forest, workforce challenges and the general impact inflation is having on the timber community. On our visit to the U.S. Forest Service, we discussed ways to improve the timber program and what can be done to ensure their forest management staff has the resources they need.
Over the next couple weeks, we will follow up delegation members and Forest Service staff.
